Candlelight Trek (Ski, Walk, Snowshoe) at Maplewood State Park

Description

Maplewood State Park is a winter wonderland and this popular event is a must-do! Join us on a one-mile trek around Cataract Lake, or maybe a hike up Hallaway Hill, both lit by candlelight. Ski, walk, snowshoe, or just chat around the campfire with friends, enjoy hot chili, smores, desserts, and hot drinks. 

Chili will be ready to serve by 5:00 p.m., and candles will be lit from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Location is the Trail Center. Friends of Maplewood will have a limited number of snowshoes for rent. 

2026 Update: We know the lines of cars entering the car were long last year ... and we have worked with the Park staff to resolve this issue! We are still working out the details, but we plan to have several different trails lit by candlelight so that we use more of the park and not just the Trail Center. Entry into the park should go much quicker and parking should be easier!  

The event is free, but a vehicle pass is needed if you don’t have one ($7 daily, $35 annual). It is suggested you purchase the pass online before getting to the park.
